For a commercial building, there is no flooring that is going to be quite as durable as VCT floors. These floors are a great option for high traffic areas and are a common choice for business owners. Just because they are incredibly durable, doesn’t mean that there isn’t some maintenance that can help extend their life and keep them looking like new. VCT flooring needs to be stripped and waxed every 6-9 months to keep it looking its best and remove any scratches that can leave the flooring dull. Baker Sandoval Cleaning is here to talk about what the stripping and waxing process looks like.
What to Expect When Stripping & Waxing VCT Flooring
As a business owner, you want the flooring in your building to look its best. It can have a big impact on the overall style and feel of the building for your customers. Here is what you can expect from a professional VCT stripping and waxing detail:
– Prep the Floor: The first thing that must be done is to prepare the floor for the process. This means that anything on the floor must be removed. This might be furniture, rugs and any other obstacles in the way. Signs need to be in place to let people know that the floors aren’t to be walked on throughout the process as well.
– Stripping the Old Wax: To get the process started, the old wax will need to be stripped from the floor. When you turn to professionals for this, they will use an industrial grade floor stripper to remove the old wax from the floor’s surface. This solution will sit on the surface for the floor for several minutes before an abrasive pad is used to dig in and remove that old wax.
– Cleaning VCT Floors: The surface of the floor will need to be deep cleaned after the wax is stripped off. The sludge that is a result of removing old wax will need to be removed using a wet vac or a mop. A neutral cleanser is used to ensure absolutely every bit of dirt and grime is removed from the floor. After this process is taken care of, the floor will be given ample time to completely dry before the new wax is applied.
– New Wax Application: Once the floor is dry, there will be multiple layers of new wax put on the floor’s surface. After each layer of wax is applied to the floor, it needs to completely dry before the next layer is put on. Most of the time, 3-5 coats are put on the floor to offer the protection it needs.
– Buffing VCT Floors: The last step in the process will be buffing. This gives your floors a glossy, smooth finish. It also ensures the wax is evenly distributed on the floor.
